After reading this novel, I was struck by its prescience about the state of our country and the looming terrorism unleashed by the fall of the Soviet empire. It's a rare literary gem requiring patient reading and pondering. On pg. 137, there is a discussion with a character about the end of the cold war…(and it was written prior to 9/11/2001!) And the finale for the story's protagonist Nick Shays is memorable.
